Honeycomb Launches Integration With the Anthropic Usage and Cost API

If your organization is anything like ours, then you’ve probably embraced using large language models like Claude. Just last week, we gave all Honeycomb employees access to Claude. Now, developers can generate AI-assisted code, product managers can perform analysis on customer usage trends, marketers can test messaging, sales can do customer discovery and we are shipping AI-powered features to improve user experience.

It’s really impressive how ingrained Claude has become within our traditional workflows, making them more efficient than ever before. While the Anthropic Console manually provides access to detailed usage and cost analytics for Claude, it is also becoming important to pull this data via an API and correlate it with specific features or applications.Today, we’re proud to announce an integration suite to help you monitor and understand your Claude usage and costs not just in Honeycomb, but in any observability tool that supports OpenTelemetry.

OpenTelemetry Collector Anthropic usage receiver

Available today under the Apache 2.0 license, we are releasing an OpenTelemetry Collector receiver that can be deployed to your infrastructure using the OpenTelemetry Collector builder. This receiver is flexible and customizable, allowing you to record and break down your cost and usage data, while also supporting the Collector’s wide array of processors and exporters.

We also plan to support this receiver with a one-click integration in Honeycomb Telemetry Pipeline, allowing you to deploy and configure the Anthropic usage receiver as part of your managed telemetry pipeline.

Honeycomb board for Claude usage and cost

Irrespective of how you get the data to us, we’re also pleased to introduce a board template for Claude usage and cost data. This template will provide you with pre-configured templates that break out your usage by API key, model, and more. You can use it to keep an eye on your top-line costs, but also to get deeper: integrate your Anthropic project IDs or API keys into application telemetry, then drill down to correlate specific usage spikes or outliers with application behavior. Thanks to our unique data store, traditional cardinality limits don’t apply!
